According to the principle „Those who want to get hit shall be allowed to get hit“ STAGE is hosting Shakespeare’s „The taming of the shrew“ with full intention to game everything away.
The production starrs a woman named Katharina who is tamed and restrained by the boorish Petruchio. Though his techniques are sleazy they seem to work – eventually the wildcat purrs around the stallion’s feet. Well done! But: How could this have happened and what will this mean for love? And then there’s Katharina’s little hot sister Bianca, who is swept off her feet by the romantic Lucentio, without apparent resistance. Is this an example of old-fashioned female obedience– or do we witness an often played but rarely disclosed wicked game?
On this occasion we introduce you to the battle of glorifyed romantic love and the shameless love combat. Why shouldn’t we be allowed to celebrate our own submission?
Not too long ago, this subject matter had been a world sensation; a Hollywood movie starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, an immensily popular Broadway Musical performed more than a thousand times across German, French and British stages.
Today, the play has been rated misogynistic and almost banned from the stage. Progress? Or Fear? Of what?
I got my eyes on you
You’re everything that I see
I want your hot love and emotion
Endlessly
I can’t get over you
You left your mark on me
I want your hot love and emotion
Endlessly
